Even during “normal” times, raising a child with special needs can be extremely challenging. You feel isolated and completely alone in this world.
Add in the fact that your family was thrust into a pandemic in March 2020 - and therefore, thrown out of sync from daily routines - and your job as a special needs parent has become even more difficult! Now that the world is opening up again, we are facing yet another new set of "normals" --- how do we keep managing these up and down changes that are so disruptive to our lives?
The anxiety and uncertainty are beginning to take their toll and you’re worried that after all the progress you’ve made with your child, regression and dysregulation are settling in.
You love them with all of your heart but you just don't know what to do anymore or who to turn to for help.
There’s really no other way to put it...
And then a scarier thought creeps in. What about MY needs? You begin to wonder if you'll ever find joy and purpose in your own life. In fact, is that even possible?
Aren’t you supposed to sacrifice your own desires and goals in life and solely focus on your child? Shouldn’t you just concentrate on facilitating your child's life so that it runs as smoothly as possible?
Does YOUR happiness and well-being matter anymore?
I understand exactly what you’re going through! My name is Susanna Peace Lovell and at the age of 2.5 my now teenage daughter Arizona was diagnosed with myriad challenges and special needs. I was in complete and utter shock.
I experienced severe anxiety, and, after the newness of being a warrior mom wore off, fell into a deep and lengthy depression. I felt I needed to sacrifice the rest of my life to ensure that Arizona would have the best shot at her own life.
But what I slowly grew to understand was that the more I allowed myself to experience my own joy, recharge my batteries, and stay connected to the practice of self-care, the more I was able to be present for my daughter and tap into what her real needs were.
I believe that we teach what we most need to learn, and I recognize the power in flowing with the ups and downs of this distinct journey.
It is a true gift to realize that your child’s potential doesn’t have a limit; but to realize YOUR possibilities are also unlimited is a tremendous breakthrough not to be missed!
Imagine waking up every morning excited for the day knowing that it can be full of fun, love, happiness and personal growth!
What if you can finally face the day with confidence knowing that you’re providing the best life possible for you and your family?
I’d like to help as many families as possible achieve this, which is why I finally created this online course...
This course is completely self-paced and will take special needs parents on a journey in rediscovering joy and balance.
As we advocate for and support our children to lead fuller and richer lives, it is also possible for us as parents to experience this same richness for ourselves.
This course will dive deep into the following topics:
Our journey as special needs parents is a non-linear one. There are ups and downs as well as progress and setbacks. We need to build a solid foundation for ways in which we can continue to get the right help for our atypical children, and ourselves.
In this class, I will share my story as a Mom raising a teenage daughter with myriad special needs and challenges, provide an introduction to the practice of self-care, dive into specific hints and tips for getting help for your neuro-diverse child, and lean into the spiritual practice of honoring and loving our children for exactly who they are.
As is our custom as parents to focus on the ways in which we can best advocate for our children with needs, it is an equally important task and practice to simultaneously be in touch with our own needs.
This class will help you set the foundation for being the best advocate for yourselves and your child / children, my top tips for making the most out of your therapeutic journey and learn some powerful spiritual mantras for continuing to honor our children (and ourselves) as whole, perfect and complete. Nothing needs to be “fixed” – because nothing is broken!
As our unique journey continues to shift and change, it’s important to create a village around ourselves and our child / children. This village may change, but what doesn’t change are the ways in which we can set a solid intention around finding the best support that works best for the entire family.
I am a firm believer in that finding the best help for our children includes therapeutic healing for the entire family. This class dives deep into the core of building a team around us: finding the best learning environment, identifying and tapping into the best therapeutic support and building community. I also share my top tips for co-parenting along the journey (whether you have a “partner” or not).
Self-care has been at the forefront of my journey as a special needs parent. I have found that the practice of self-care is the quickest portal to abundance – of joy, connection, purpose and fulfillment. My ability to take care of my daughter is heightened when my cup is full (and especially when it’s overflowing)!
In this class, I share my top 7 tips for truly leaning into the practice of TRUE self-care – emotional, spiritual, physical and beyond!
We will follow along with my handbook (PDF download) on my 7 top tips: 1) Speak Your Truth, 2) Just Say No, 3) Release the Guilt, 4) Receive Help, 5) Let Go of Expectations, 6) Get Comfortable with Being Uncomfortable) and last but not least … 7) Find Your Joy.
Please join me on this journey as we learn, laugh, cry and celebrate together. Whether you have been a special needs family for many years or have just received a diagnosis, this class is for you!
